Deep Creek, as Deep Creek Lake or Garrett County is often referred to as, is a special hidden gem for all who visit. Tucked “away from it all” in the mountains of Maryland, Deep Creek remains centrally located for many. Just South of Pittsburgh, PA and just west of Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC, in the far-western panhandle, Deep Creek is a meeting point. It’s not surprising to see couples visiting, and getting married here, from all around the U.S.
The couples we have had the pleasure of meeting tell us they have a connection here; his grandparents had a house here, her family came up to ski every winter, they share a second home here…. No matter the reason for choosing Deep Creek, a Deep Creek Wedding can be narrowed down to six special experiences:
On the Water
The Deep Creek area is home to Deep Creek Lake, a 12-mile long lake with 65 miles of winding shoreline where couples can get married in the yard of a lake house, on a dock built large enough for your entire ceremony, or on a deck with a reflecting sunset light. We have an abundance of other local lakes and waterways to bring a different perspective; a kayak, canoe or an electric-only motor boat can turn into an intimate ceremony location.
In a Barn
Large wooden structures, some with a legitimate working history, have evolved into a serious Deep Creek experience. Professional barn wedding venues range from rustic, casual, to black-tie elegant. Often with ponds, cornfields, pumpkin patches, iron gates, tractors, trucks and other features, barn venues in Deep Creek offer an all-encompassing transport to a certain time and place.
In the Woods
Magical woodland weddings take place in venues built to honor the natural beauty of our forests, rivers and waterfalls. We have seen the local state parks transformed into artful ceremony and reception venues. Is there better way to be fully immersed in the natural attraction and enchantment of earthy aromas, rushing water, and towering pines?
In A Field / On A Mountain
With a wedding-season climate that lends itself to outdoor experiences, you’ll find Deep Creek weddings outdoors in fields, by ponds, or on mountainsides. Escape to a unique vantage point overlooking the lake or perched in front of panoramic mountain views. Find a field of soft wildflowers and an afternoon light that just makes you feel at home.
Banquets & Hotels
On the ski slopes or on the water or off the beaten path, there are hotel, cabin, and yurt, and banquet rooms that can host any size event. One local venue can host up to 450 guests. While assuring potential weather won’t negatively impact the event, these tasteful and sophisticated spaces can be decorated as you see fit. A floral wall, chandeliers, swags, fabric drapes and up-lighting features will set the mood.
Just the Two of You
Looking for just the right way to commit your love to one another? Elopements or private ceremonies are becoming increasingly more popular. Think of it as being uniquely you and less of a financial commitment. Your ceremony will be as special as you make it and you can celebrate with family and friends in your own style.
As Tom Riford, the Assistant Secretary for the Maryland Department of Commerce, said, “If Maryland is known as America in miniature, then Garrett County, Deep Creek Lake, is Maryland in miniature — we have it all right here.”
